Almost like heaven

Dreams of a simpler time

In a safe and loving space

My grandfather’s house

Which was really a trailer

In a small retirement community

But it was the one place

That ever felt like home

In my dream he was well again

Color in his cheeks

A smile on his face

Warmth in his heart

Kind words on his lips

My sister and I were at ease

My mother was calm

And no one was fighting

I wasn’t on the edge of tears

As I am now recounting this

Missing him terribly

The great mind that was lost

The old jokes and stories

I’ll never hear him tell again

Unless I dream of him

Slipping back through time

As I fall asleep
